For a local testing center in Karlstein (later Alzenau), we (Robin Heidrich and I) revamped the outdated software used for documenting and managing Covid-19 tests. The previous software was slow and cumbersome to use, and it could only be accessed from one computer as it was locally installed. This significantly slowed down the process, especially when there was a high demand for testing, leading to long queues and wait times.


To address these issues, we developed a new software solution from scratch, focusing on stability and speed. We set up a Linux system on a local mini-PC and ran our web-based software on it. This approach allowed multiple computers to access the software, improving efficiency. Additionally, the security was enhanced as the software was isolated within the local network, preventing external access.

As we needed to migrate customer data from the old software, we also created a migration program that seamlessly transferred the data to the new database.

The new software boasted several key features. A high-performance person search, powered by Meilisearch, facilitated quick and accurate results. The software provided an overview of ongoing Covid-19 tests, allowing employees to mark them as positive or negative with a single click. They also had the option to send test certificates via email or print them. In cases where a test was marked as positive, the software automatically notified the local health authority, reducing additional workload for the staff.

Furthermore, we developed an evaluation interface that generated daily and monthly statistics. These statistics were crucial for the testing center's operations and were also valuable for the health authority. By digitizing all the records, we simplified the process of providing comprehensive information during audits, eliminating the need for manual data analysis.

Through close collaboration with the testing center, we optimized the entire process and tailored the software to their specific needs and requirements.

Later on, we also revamped the outdated website, creating a sleek and modern design that provides customers with a brief overview of the testing center.
